How do I activate my plug-ins?

Server performance and Plugins on WordPress?

  • As per a theory the deactivated plugins will not affect Server Performance or Page load. WordPress experts strongly support that. But I do hear some arguments that every plugin, active or not, will add more php strings being processed. Single site WordPress installations will not have much plugins and we can remove the plugins as soon as we deactivate the plugins. So we need not worry about this on Single Site Installations. But the problem is with Multi Site installations. Some sub sites may need the plugins which are deactivated on other sub-sites in the network. Also the Multi-site installations may have 20 and some times a few dozens of plugins installed. I would like to know the experts opionion on this.

  • Answer:

Honestly, you need to sacrifice something. Using 20 plus plug-ins is not very wise. i would not go with more then 6-8. You need to give something up. I would start with "user experience" plug-ins. They are great but some make WP so slow that it kind of defeats the purpose. It might look great but if it takes the site 5 sec to load because of it, it will still be bad user experience. Lastly, do your research when it comes to plug-ins. I have seen this over and over, people have 5 plug-ins that have similar functions meanwhile there is one plug-in that performs 5 functions. Also, test different plug-ins and see which one performs better. Either way, using 20 plus plug-ins is nuts!
