You need to be aware that lots of sites where you post stuff with links thinking this will give a boost to your site cloak those links using things like the nofollow tag. This can stop the link juice getting passed to the page that you want to see in the search engine listing. Not to worry. There are other things you can do. Look for social bookmarking and tagging sites, register and bookmark/tag your new page (some of them are dofollow, but I wouldn't worry too much about finding out which, just do as many as you can before you start suffering from RSI). Then set up a blog and make sure its links are dofollow. Post and link to your new pages. For more advice see the page with stuff about SEO on the site below. Oh, and be patient. Google can take quite a while to find your page and list it properly.

There are a lot of factors which determine ranking, unfortunately without seeing the webpage you have created it is hard for people to suggest exactly what might be wrong. You tell us that the page has been seo'd, but in the next breath state that you are a newbie to this, so just how seo'd is the web page? Adding articles to the top article directories may not be enough on it's own. As you have seen, the articles themselves are ranking for the very term you want your page to rank for. Have you created a link from your homepage to the new webpage? This would certainly help as you would be passing the linkjuice directly from your homepage. You might also want to do a few blog comments pointing to the page, or submit to a few free directories just to diversify the types of link which are pointing to the page.
