  I went to an online high school, and although every school will be different in several ways, I can tell you about the school I went to. Most of the work was done online, some was done on paper, and I met with a counselor several times a month. The classes did not work at specific times. I would have to read my textbooks and then go and do whatever online work or paper work I needed to do. If it was online work, it usually had to be submitted by a certain date and the paper work would need to be submitted every time I met with my counselor. There are always finals and midterms to take, but you don't even have to take SAT's in a normal high school, so you don't have to but I am sure you could if you wanted. If you are sick, you don't do work that day but you have to make it up the next day. Same thing if your power goes out. When you go online, you have a certain amount of work to complete usually in a one week period. You could probably do all the work in one day if you spent 24 hours straight studying. So if you make a plan to spread your homework out over 7 days, but you are sick for 2 of the days, you will need to do extra work for 2 more days to make up for the time you didn't. I wrote it in a complicated way, but it really is quite simple.
