Homeschool per semester?

I homeschool. Next semester they will go back to PS. I need a letter.?

  • The school is asking for an official letter that I did homeschool them. Where can I find one? Is there a such thing?

  • Answer:

Ask them what it is they want specifically. Is it a letter from you? From a school district? From the state board of education? Find out what it is they want. If you don't have to register where you live and they ask for something from someone other than you, you'll have to explain to them the laws.

Are they just asking for a scope & sequence of your portfolio so they know what courses the kids have taken in the past? Are they high school age? In most state, HS's are considered private schools, so you should only be forced to do what any transfer student from a private school would be required to do - which, most likely, is transferring school records. Have you kept them? This would include what courses, grades if you give them, any testing done, etc.

Many public school principals (and administrators) are unfamiliar with homeschool laws within their own state. Contact your state homeschool group and find out what the LAW requires of you. If the school is asking for something you don't need, the state group (as long as you're a member) is there to defend you. You could also contact HSLDA, but they will want you to be a member in order to help you.

Call the school and ask if this will work: Write a letter stating the dates that you homeschooled your children *(and what subjects were covered). Include a copy of any achievement test results that they took. Find a notary and have it notarized. (You can usually find a notary at your bank.) Take it by the Superintendent's office. *Part in *(parenthesis) is optional. You may not need to include this information depending on the state you live in.

oooooolala!

seems to me, you are the only one who could write such a letter. I think I'd contact the school again and ask exactly what it is they're looking for.
