What kind of bow should I get?

  • Info- I've only done archery for 1 week for 2 years at school... I'm really lovin ,and use to, compound bows since that's what the schools use, but is it really my cup ...show more

  • Answer:

Bear manufacturers a good entry compound bow called the Apprentice 2 that's great for a young person as she/he grows. They also manufacture another called the Outbreak that could be used by an adult or child, since the draw weight can be adjusted from a low of 15lbs to 70lbs! They sell these both Ready to Shoot, so they include all of the accessories you'll need. If you want to try a more traditional bow, Martin makes some nice take-down recurves. Take-down means you can collapse them for easier transport and storage. These bows are called the Jaguar and Saber which are $150-200 all-in. www.Buybowsarrows.com has good product and educational information. Good Luck!

Your best bet will be to pay a visit to a good archery shop or club. A search online will be able to help you find a few in your area or close by you can get to. Archery clubs will have different bows available so you can give them a try to see what you prefer and which suits you and can also give you some good advice (and you'll have a place you can practice) and archery stores are great at providing a lot of valuable information as well including the type of equipment you'd need that can fall into the price range you are looking at. They'll also be able to advise you on the types of bows out there and what ones might be better suited as well as help you get the correct size of bow that you need. They'd be well worth talking to before going out and buying stuff right away.

Used bow, any archery shop, try them all, whatever bow fits you best, is the one for you, brand names don't matter much. Just whatever your comfortable, and can shoot the best with. Try archerytalk.com for more help with this. (Martin site) P.S. Don't get caught up in the latest, greatest, fastest thing, 350 fps means nothing if you can't hit what your aiming at. I target shoot with a Mathews Ovation 50# at around 265 fps. and can sink 5 out of 6 acc's in a 2" group at 30 yrd's.
