Decline for shoes. I usually go through a pair every two weeks, but I have had a pair of decline for 4 months. As for boards... No real good answer... I would go with a 8" ATM blank. There like 40$ and just as good as the pro boards. If your just starting out I would go for it just because you don't want to get a 80$ board, ride for 2 months and then be like "f$$$ I spent all this bloody $ and hate skating... Where's my fruit boots?" Cause that would suck. Skate or die!

Well shoes vary depending on what you want out of them. There are a few typical categories involved with deciding on a shoe. 1) Style - A lot of people base the way the shoes look ahead of anything else, which isn't necessarily bad, but might mean the shoes won't be as durable as others. "Stylish" shoes nowadays seem to be from the companies of vans, circa, emerica, and globe among many. These shoes are skinnier in width and look almost like slip-ons a good portion of the time. Thick and wider shoes seemed to fade out over the last ten years, but what do you expect. Styles change of course. 2) Durability - Some of the most durable shoes are often Osiris, Fallen, or similar brands. It really depends on the material. For a longer lasting shoe I would recommend getting suede shoes as oppose to super-suede or canvas. They will last much much longer. Fallen to fall in between a good durability and a good look (assuming that's what you want). Keep in mind thought that it is all up to your taste. Some shoes might suit you better. As for boards, Many people do not realize that many distributors provide the same boards to the same company. For example, Toy machine and Foundation are the exact same skateboards, but with different graphics. I would suggest researching this if it interest you. As for the "best" board to get; Once again, it all depends on your taste. For me, I never had a whole lot of money to buy pro decks so I would often buy blank decks, which almost always worked out well. What I can say though is that at the stage you are in skateboarding now, any board will work for you. Slight differences are not going to affect you as much as someone that has been skating the same board for ten years. If you want my personal opinion on skateboards, I like Organica, partly because I am just used to them. Overall, I wouldn't worry too much on picking the best board out there, but just getting out there and having fun, no matter what board you have. Live to shred, Shred to live.
