Is there a way to disable screen capture on an iPad app?
-
I'm having a school app made and I want to disable the screen capture during quizes or all together to prevent the students from handing down the quiz questions.

Answer:
In iOS6 (so only when running the latest iOS software) there is a mode that you can put an app into called "Guided Access," which is sort of a "kiosk" or "little kids" mode. This is not an API call that you can build into your app to disable things, rather it is something you set up with the app before you hand it to students, and it will not only prevent them from taking screen shots, it will also prevent them from leaving the app and doing anything else with the device. While an App is in "Guided Access" mode it is locked-down and you can also specify parts of the screen that are or aren't allowed to be used (convenient for in-store displays with custom applications). To enable "Guided Access," go to the Settings application, choose General, navigate down to Accessibility, and find Guided Access. You'll want to set a passcode on the device(s) for exiting Guided Access. Once enabled, just go to any app, open it, and triple-click the home button. You'll be prompted about how you want to limit things -- by default the hardware buttons are all disabled, so Home, Power (and I *think* the volume rockers) won't work. To exit Guided Access, triple-click the home button again and enter the correct password -- you'll be prompted to change your settings and Resume or to End. Good luck - I think you'll find this works well for tests. Just be very careful with your passcode, students are pretty clever at finding these sorts of things out.
