Pier and surf rod reel combo?

you would probably do better using light lures with a spinning outfit. an 8 footer would be good for the pier but a 10 or 12 foot rod would get you better distance in the surf. you can get an entry level outfit at basspro, cabela's or walmart as previously stated but if you double that budget, you could get a much better outfit that would last longer and give much better service. get a sand spike for surf fishing. don't get your reel near the sand. that will ruin the most expensive reel. good luck, B

check basspro,cablelas and gander mountain for combos, a nine or ten footer should do the job reasonably well,I use PENN,they've been around forever,and have an old one from the forties that's as good as anything you will be able to get today.It was made in the USA,by fisherman,for fisherman.Maybe you'll have to bite the bullet on the cost,but you'll never have to buy another one.They last forever if you care for it regularly,keep it clean and lubed well,wash off the gunk and salt,etc.you can find good condition ones in ebay or craigslist for real cheap as well,check yard sales and flea markets,estate sales,and consignment shops sometimes have them when the widow brings one in.I paid $ 100.00 for mine quite a long time ago,now and I've had no complaints about it.Shakespeare also makes a wide range of gear for this specific purpose,and they too have been around forever,you can get one with a lot less money,I think their's are made in china now.
