Help with starting acting career?

I need some help in starting an acting career.?

  • I'm 14 and I really want to get into an acting career. But I have no idea where to start. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Answer:

A career is a big ambition. You need to start with working out if you have the ability, resilience, motivation and potential it takes to pursue an acting career. This is an extremely competitive line of work and there are thousands of young people out there who "dream" of having an acting career. Start at the beginning. Do youth theatre. Learn to sing, dance, act and read music. Spend time with some of the other young people out there who want what you want. Agents have no interest in ambitious, passionate young people who cannot back up that ambition with "marketable" skills. Their income depends on your ability to secure work at audition. They do not take risks with beginners. Do drama at school. Read all you can about acting styles and investigate the best formal training options for after high school. Without full parent backing, both legal and financial, you will not be able to consider paid employment. Most actors do not earn a liveable income from acting - they have a back up occupation. They are faced with obstacles and rejection every day and even talented, well trained actors must audition alongside many, many others. Give acting a try and you will soon work out if this lifestyle is for you. Best of luck.

start with having at least one parent that will actively do this with you. you can't do this on your own. if your not there now,get to where the opportunities and work are. take acting training to learn how show business works and to find out how much talent you have, if any. when you have learned what to expect and do on an audition, there are some things that are open calls you can try. local theater and student and ind, films are open calls anyone can go on. the only ones that can help you do this right now are your parents.

Basically, to make a start as an actor, you'd need to - 1) Have loads of natural talent. 2) Get a few years of training at a good, accredited acting school, going from the basic classes to advanced ones. 3) Get experience in a wide range of stage plays and shows – not regular high school stuff 4) Learn to sing and dance if possible. 5) Train for a good ordinary job as well, one you can work free-lance, as you’ll need it. Almost all actors work at least one other job just to survive. 6) Ideally study Drama at degree-level at drama school or university. 7) After all the above, try to find an agent who will accept you. 8) When you get an agent, which is how you find auditions, try to win a few auditions out of the hundreds you'll have to apply for. Just bear in mind that all that hard work isn't enough - you also need huge talent, dedication, determination, resilience and luck. And sadly, the best that almost all actors will ever get is 2 or 3 weeks paid acting work a year - that's the average - and will never get more than a few minor roles in small productions.

Sure. First, are you an actor? Do you even understand the question? Do you actually know what an actor is and does? There is a great line in "My Favorite Year" (familiar with it?) where Peter O'Tool (know him?), overcome with stage fright, tells, "I am not an actor, I am a movie star!" It is a very important message in a great movie full of important messages. Start by getting involved in acting in your school. Look around your community for theater groups. Go to a few plays and watch what the actors actually do. Go to a play two or three times and watch it for different reasons. Watch the play, watch the actors, watch the production. Take classes and learn to be an actor. Some people are natural but MOST people are not. Like being a doctor or a lawyer or a teacher, you need to LEARN your craft. Start with the drama department at your school. Break a leg.
