    Well, I'd leave off 'role playing' entirely there, as Heroscape isn't a 'role playing' game at all. But yes. The more games you play, the more concepts and mechanics become familiar with. Play Heroscape, and you'll understand attack and defense rolls, movement rules and unit stats, for example. You'll see those in a lot of other games. If you played BattleLore now, for example, you'd have to learn the mechanics where card play controls what units move, but the combat system should be very easy to learn quickly because you've seen something very similar.

YES! Heroscape is a really good game for folks new to this type of gaming. It will introduce concepts such as line of sight, combat modifiers, etc. You can then "graduate" (if you choose to) to higher complexity games. Have fun!

I'm sure almost all role playing games have a sort of tutorial in the beginning, so that should usually help you out a bit. I'm sure if you play one game and get good at it, then you'll get the basic idea of how an RPG works, and so you might end up using improvised techniques on other RPGs (like the fastest ways or best ways of leveling up, getting skills, making money, etc.)

I'm not familiar with that game but I guess it depends how "like it" these other games are. You'll for sure have to go through an entire rule book again as all the rules will be different or at the very least be tweaked diferently or act in a diferent way. You might pick it up faster though.
