    Most new tvs does not have a speaker terminal for connecting external speakers to them. They have aa optical audio output that you have to connect to a receiver of a home theater in a box. The reason is that the tv does not have a powerful amp to drive other speakers than what it came with internally.

Look at the back of your TV. You should have an optical output. You buy a Home Theater system with 5 speakers and a subwoofer and feed it from this output with an optical cable. The receiver provides the power to drive the speakers.
