Dogs are a lot of work and very expensive. You have to train them, supervise them, fed them on schedule, get them groomed, get them neutered, and the list continues. They show great affection. Most are highly trainable. They can travel with you, but that can be its own challenge. I have had rabbit but not a guinea pig. I assume they are similar. Rabbit can have some training or zero, for example, they can be trained to go in a litter box. They need their cage cleaned weekly - new bedding which can be expensive. They also need food, chew toys, etc. Like dogs, they need vet care. They are soft and some can be quite affectionate. Plus they are always adorable. I consider them much less work!

I've never had a guinea pig before but the pros of having a dog are many. They are great companions. The cons are that you will have to groom it, depending on the breed and house train it. It does suck having to get up in the middle of the night to take it out but if you train it right to go out before bed then that rarely happens. Some of them make excellent watchdogs and are great to play with. Rabbits on the other hand really aren't all that playful. I had a dutch rabbit that stayed small so I got to keep him in the house when I was a kid. You really don't have to groom them with the exception of cutting their nails. The problem with Rabbits is that the poop everywhere. Mine eventually learned to use the cat litter box but that didn't happen for a long, long time. But a rabbit is good if you don't have a lot of space.
