How can I set my monitor to the optimum resolution?

Help! i can't set my monitor resolution!?

    Start in normal mode right click on the desktop (blank area) go to properties go to settings Screen resolution up and the color quality all the way it should ask you do you like (16 or 32) Even when you update your video drivers you still have to go through this step always

go back into safe mode, change the settings to vga standard, 640x480 and 16 colors. restart the computer in normal mode, then reset the settings on your resolution to 800x600 or 1024x728 64 colors and see what happens.
