Hey! Interesting question. I was kind of in the opposite boat when i was 17. I wanted more than anything to study in the UK but I found it too expensive to go there as an American student :( But i did end up going there for a year to study instead and it was a very eye-opening experience! The woman above me is correct in saying the US is very expensive for a foreign student to study at. But if you can't afford the whole four years i suggest you at least come here for a semester; advice coming from a person who has experienced uni at both ends. I loved the UK when i was there. The people were nice and the scenery was beautiful. I would however, disagree w the person above who claims that UK education is MUCH better than American...this is true in theory maybe, but overall i found my experience at my US uni much more enlightening than the uni in the UK. I won't get into the schooling structures of the two systems, but i think i learned a lot more both in and out of the classroom at the american uni. Being in the UK made me realize how much i appreciated the vivid diversity of the US. Everyone at my UK uni came from the same culture and all....looked the same...as weird as that sounds. Maybe it was just that particular school, but the culture was very white bread... I came back to my home uni after a year abroad and was so happy to be back among all the different cultures and people that made up my university. If you come to school in the US you'll be among every group you could possibly imagine....jewish students, black students, hispanic students, asian students, inner-city students, country students, california fabulous students, angry new yorker students, southern gentlemen students, etc etc etc. All with our various backgrounds and sometimes odd surnames. It was so great to be back, even if i loved the UK! there are so many experiences that you can have here that you wont be able to experience anywhere else in the world....so if you can manage it, at least come here for a few months, if not for your entire education. we're a very curious people so i think you'll find american students very open to getting to know you and would love to take you to a football game or a frat party and then to taco bell for chalupas at 3 am haha! (you'll know what this is all about when you come here :) Hope you keep considering coming over! Good luck!
