Average house insurance in Canada?

In Canada if my family member that lives in a different house lends me a car do i need insurance on it?

Therefore you need to be listed as an driver on her policy. Keep in mind she cannot be the principal operator on two vehicles, which means you will have to be listed as the principal operator of her old vehicle. Regardless of what vehicle it is this is going to be an expensive proposition seeing how you are 17 AND newly licensed. Your grandmother should speak with her broker/agent before letting you touch the vehicle.
