ralphs right about the head on the 4.0L. If it does have the 4.0L the last four digits on the bad head casting number is I believe is 0331. The 99-00 are prone to cracking on the flip side if it was going to crack it probably would of already done so. That also could be why he's selling it. Beyond that those 4.0L will run forever. People are really dumb about high mileage motors on here. That's not high on a 4.0L I have 250,000 on the one in the picture. Drove it from kc to silverton colorado and back and still got 20 mpg on the hiway. That does kinda sound high on the price unless it has the V8. Check the heating and cooling too blend doors can be problems on em.

Love Jeeps. Have owned them all my life and own 2 right now. For most years the 4.0 engine is barely broken at 187K. Thing is that 4.0's in '00 and '01 have bad heads. Not all but some. Poor casting from the factory causing them to crack. Google it. Not a cheap fix. Probably $1500 at a garage including parts if not more. Plus $3000 seems a bit on the high side to me. If you want a Jeep I think you can do better. But I am not there and have not met the person who owns it. Original owner? Older or younger? All service records? Garaged? Not lifted or modified? Not used to tow? What other options? All this would play a part in my decision plus giving the Jeep a once over. Owned enough Jeeps to know where to look. Have a mechanic give it a once over maybe.

The short answer is......too old, too many miles, too much money, and the owner will say anything to get someone to buy it off him/her.

uh its risky i mean its gettting up there. depends how long you are planning to drive it for

That's one tired Jeep. Unfortunately, the Grand Cherokee was of poor quality and reliability the minute it rolled off the showroom floor. It sure has hell is not in good shape now. Keep shopping.

Obviously nobody else here commenting negatively has ever owned a Jeep. There are a couple of places for failure on any car. The chassis/suspension never really "fails", the suspension does wear out and need new shocks from time to time, but those parts won't by themselves leave you stranded. The parts that can fail are: Engine Transmission Transfer case Axles Electronics. To explain why they are wrong: 2000 GC Laredo had 2 engines, the 4.0L I6, which is virtually indestructable, will last nearly forever, and 187k miles is just getting broken in. My old 4.0 ran as good with 200k miles on it as it did with 120k miles, if not better. The other is the 4.7L V8, which is also a very solid engine. The first year of it, it wasn't great, but by 2000 they had worked out the issues, and it will go well over 300k miles easily. The transmissions used to be a Chrysler problem...in fullsize trucks. The 545RFE in that Grand Cherokee is dead reliable IN THAT GRAND CHEROKEE. Put it in a heavier truck, and it won't do as well. For the transfer case, it will have either the Quadradrive II or the SelecTrac. The SelecTrac uses an NV242, which is a fantastic transfer case. The QDII isn't as reliable for heavily modified vehicles with larger tires, but I've never heard of one failing. The Jeep uses Chrysler and Dana axles, which are probably the strongest civilian size axles on earth. You won't have problems with them. Overall, that Jeep is just getting broken in, no matter what engine or 4 wheel drive system it has. That Jeep will still be running long after the new 2014 Toyotas and such have long since met the recycle bin.
