Question for educators: why do so many college grads believe in astrology?

Assuming all y'all are teaching logic, reason, critical thinking and the science model, why is that at least 50 percent of all college grads that I speak to believe in astrology? If ...show more

Answer:
My guess is that most of us haven't taught that. However, belief systems defy logic, and as long as we don't try to destroy religious beliefs, many feel that other belief systems are just as good. I know of at least one college grad (and he graduated many decades ago) who is convinced that he saw a UFO, and thus that UFOs exist. I would also guess that you are dealing with a rather skewed sample of college graduates. Certainly 50% of the college grads that I talk to do NOT believe in astrology. I can only think of one who does, out of the hundreds that I know. You may either live in a place where such beliefs are more common or the places in which you meet them attract such people.

it is nice to know that you truly understand the universe. I am sure that the great scientific minds can explain all the things you speak of as bunk. college students come in from an educational system that the college profs did not create: we simply have to work with the results of poor k-12 educational systems. logic is not the sole truth.... if so, then use your extraordinarily superior logic to explain paranormal activity? use logic to explain the evolution of knowledge. (philology) Use logic to explain the genesis of legend within human history. We use euphemisms to assign causality to those things that we cannot explain. Then you will have essentially debased every culture on the planet.

Why is reason so good all of a sudden? And astrology does have some rational basis to it if you research how it's done. And some of my horoscopes have been freakishly accurate. Have YOU ever heard that the devil is using the ultra-rational to bring out a New World Order by deceiving people through science and evolution, and he's the creator, according to some fundamentalist Christians, of astrology. Besides, isn't a liberal arts education focused on being more open-minded to new ideas?
are you sure you don't mean astronomy?
