Why are so many people so concerned about endangered species of animals...?

You make a very good and interesting point. People care more about endangered animals because they actually have an economic value attached to them, surprisingly. They are considered to be a scarce resource, which can lead to development of merchandise to advertise the possible extinction of the species, then people buy into it and give out thousands of dollars to some unknown charity which says they will help conserve the animals. We should be caring more about ourselves, because there are millions of people being slaughtered, experiencing famine and plague and those people can be considered endangered to their own environments. Look at the Spotted owl. So much of a fuss was made about bird when it was found, and a huge net loss in timber production was accomplished by the founding. It may have triggered the huge slump in stumpage prices we see now, all because of some damn bird. Here is the funny part about the spotted owl. We protected all of its habitat, which eventually attracted the Barred owl (which is an extremely aggressive bird) and now the Spotted owl is in endangered from the Barred. Funny isn't it...how we know little about the environments which endangered species live in. Then we invest all of the time and money to get them back to living in a man-made environment which attracts factors in which could wipe out the species all together. Go ahead animal lovers...I know you're going to hate my guts after all I have said, but do you know what? I'm merely telling the truth. You do more harm for the endangered animals than anybody, because you lack a lot of knowledge and common sense.

People are thriving, animals are not. Yes there are people who live in poverty and need help but there are so many people. In some endangered animals there are only like 20 left. We need these animals to keep the balance. As you said we use a lot of animals so we need all of them.

consider it this way, the human race is like a cancer, we spread out and destroy, especially as our numbers have increased. However even hundreds of years ago we caused a lot of damage, many forests cut down to build wooden sailing ships, the long term affects of doing this still are not known, but we know now that we need trees for rainfall, to hold the ground together (soil erosion) and for the wildlife. Yes people do matter, but so does the world, it is our home and we need to start to love it and care about ourselves less, because we are turning our home into a dump.

I agree with you 100% people need to worry about people, and it gets on my nerves when some dumbass in washington that has never seen a wolf or a grizzly tries to pass a bill to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on "saving" these animals when they could be spending on child healthcare or drug abuse programs, i live in montana and trust me some of these "endangered" animals are anything but scarce.

it is true that humans DO have dominion over all animals but yet is crucial to have animals that do SO much good to this earth. that is the reason that God created them!

If we fail to save the planets environment there will not be ANY people as the planet provides our food, air and water. Many animals are vital to providing these things as well. We must have an environment to have people..so I think it is clear which should be helped saving first. By saving animals and the environment we are in turn helping people as well..if you understood how an ecosystem worked you would know this already.

Yep i agree with Aly C. People arnt endangered i we lose endangered species of animals thats it they are gone. Remember that extinction is forever. Im well aware there are disadvantaged people and yes we do need to do more to help them but i dont disagree with people trying to save endangered species either. Theres enough of us on the planet that someone can work to save them someone else can work to help people who are disadvantaged. There will always be disadvantaged people although governments could do more to help you will never totally fix the problem. As for animals when they are gone they are gone they arnt coming back. So we should do all we can to save them and protect what we have left.

Animals were here before us and will remain here after humans are gone. How is it fair that we can just destroy what used to belong to them in the first place? Its our own fault that some humans are "disadvantaged" as you say, due to our carelessness of what we put into the environment? Did you ever wonder where that herbicide you put into your perfect lawn goes? Our own water supply. Guess what happens when you drink herbicide and then reproduce..Let me give you a hunt:It starts with A and rhymes with mautism.
