What's open in OC during Easter?

Whats Easter eggs got to do with Jesus?

  • I know im a bit late as easter has been and gone, but i have No idea why we have eggs at easter? And why do we celebrate easter?

  • Answer:

Easter is an ancient pagan festival that pre-dates Christianity. It celebrates the Roman goddess of fertility (hence the eggs, a symbol of fertility) Christianity gave up trying to ban it and hijacked it to celebrate Jesus' resurrection (That's why Jehovas witnesses don't celebrate Easter or Christmas)

Well, nothing really. Easter is, by another name Ostara or Eostara, a Pagan holiday of fertility. Hence the eggs, even bunnies are symbols of fertility, renewal of life after a cold winter. Easter is associated (by the Christian Church) with the resurrection of Jesus, which is also a renewal of life. It's the same with Christmas, it really isn't Jesus' birthday, it is based on Winter Solstice, another Pagan holiday in which people would bring greens into the house and light fires (Yule Logs) a time to celebrate the rebirth of the Sun, as it is the time of the longest night and afterwards the Sun begins to grow in strength. By the way, Easter is not a fixed holiday. It is set by determining the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox.

For me the Easter egg symbolizes new life and new beginning which was given to us when Jesus was resurrected. As a Christian I celebrate it to symbolize the fact that although I am a human and sinful by nature I am forgiven. As far as the whole commercial Easter, I feel that it's another way for industries to make money. I have a small child so I'm a contributor to them, lol. Just think if each American spent $50 on Easter items that would be $14,922,210,750.00 dollars. And it wouldn't be hard to do considering that Americans spent nearly $1.9 billion on Easter candy and each year 76.1 million dozen eggs are bought at Easter. Just add the egg color, baskets, grass, stuffed bunnies, other trinkets to put in the baskets, clothes, and shoes we buy and I'm sure $50 per person would be a low estimate. That's unreal thanks for making me think of it, lol.

Maybe because when you accept Jesus as your Savior is like having a new life, and when a egg is hatched it is like a new life to them. But the point that they eat the Easter eggs has anything to do with Jesus, I don't think it eating has to do with Jesus because it's not like you eat Jesus you couldnt even do that if you wanted because you couldnt get to Jesus because you were on earth and He is in Heaven even though if you committed suiside and were a Christian and went to Heaven you would have no sin so eating something I dont think is right because it is like killing someone and being a canable.
