I would suggest with this background that she look for work in broadcast journalism, either radio or television. Either will require some voice training, if she hasn't already been a broadcaster. Television also generally means you should look good on camera, although there are behind the camera jobs such as producers. As a radio journalist her expertise in criminal justice would be excellent for a news-talk format in a larger market area or big city. Success in radio opens the door for work in television if she isn't launched in television right away. She could also look for print journalism work for a newspaper. These generally are not high-paying jobs at the entry level, but her criminal justice expertise could make her valuable enough to advance more quickly. Any media employment opportunities can be improved through networking--that is, taking advantage of contacts made in school, at the workplace or socially. Today's media, especially television, often suffers for the lack of objective and well educated reporters. The best reporters are those who avoid excessive political partisanship and who are ready to absorb, process and convey information that is of value to the public. Many good journalists do go to graduate school. I am retired after working in military public affairs for a good part of my life since college and a degree in radio journalism. I currently work as an overnight news anchor in a news-talk radio station. My work includes editing, presenting and reporting news, including writing. I find this very enjoyable work. I'll never get rich doing it, but I don't get tired of doing it. Many bright young people can do very well at it.
