How long does it take to advance from an LPN to an RN?

Ok all the above answers are WRONG. As a LPN you can go into a program called bridge LPN to RN at your local community college. Find out if your local community college has an agreement with your vocational high school about accepting LPN students into their bridge accelerated ASN (associate in nursing degree which makes you a RN). Many community colleges allow LPNs with a little work experience to apply to a ASN program. Basically you can skip the 1st year of the ADN program and in 1 year graduate with an ASN degree and take the boards to become a nurse. For example a community college in my state of massachusetts has an agreement with a specific local vocational high school that they will accept their LPN students (who of course graduated and did well in HS) to their bridge LPN to ADN program. You should speak to a counselor at your HS OR speak to an advisor at your local community college.

In NYS you would need 4 yrs college and 2 yrs medical school then pass the State exam
