  • Answer:

It won't be overtime. My friend is only associate nurse. But she works at a nursing home and earns around 70k per year not after tax. I don't know if big hospitals will actually hire associate RN. Big hospitals are where you earn the real cash.

Personally I would not do an ADN, I'd do the BSN (that is actually what I did do). The pay shoud not carry much, but most hospitals tend to lean toward BSNs, not ADNs. Certainly high acuity settings and specialty areas will prefer the BSN. While your starting pay may be similar, most places limit advancement to BSNs. My hospital has RN 1, RN 2, etc. you can't go past RN2 without a BSN. Finally, doing the ADN then going back to get. BSN ends up taking longer and costing more. Just jump in and get your BSN. Take your 60 hours of prereqs at a community college, then get into a nursing school for your 4 hours of concentrated study. Most of them go through the summers o it ends up taking only about 18 months.
