Not quite. A medical lab technician (or MILT) is an associates degree; at Med technologist (MT or the newer CLS-clinical lab scientist) is a bachelors degree. You either go through a bachelors dedicated MT program, or do like I did, a 4 + 1 program ( a bachelors degree then an 1 year training program). You then take the national ASCP /CLS exam and get state licensed. If you look on your state healthcare boards web page, you can find the requirements to be a licensed MT in your state. This allows you to work in a variety of settings-not just the clinical lab. Just as an example, Salisbury State U in Maryland has a MT program.
