    Clarify: No you do not need to get an AS first; if you do, then its only TWO years more for the BS (a BS takes about 4 years total, and the CC AS replaces the first 2 years, more or less). The RN is actually what you get after you pass the NCLEX and get a state license; the BSRN is the DEGREE you get-they are two separate things. If you can, just go to CSU Sac straight off. Unless its financially hard, you do not gain a lot by the CC first, if that is your goal. After you are licensed you would apply for the NICU. If you do not get hired there you would work wherever--all RNs are trained as generalists.
