Another problem you overlooked is making a mistake. Coding incorrectly can result in wrong amount billed and insurance not paying. Also, getting a job in a market where even doctors are cutting back due to lack of people coming to the doctor due to no insurance. People expect to pay for home and auto upkeep and repairs, but seem to mistakenly thinking the care of their health and body should be someone else's responsibility. Go figure!

I agree with the postee that mentioned about unemployment. A lot of billing companies are outsourcing to Asia/India leaving jobs more scarce. With medical coding, the health care facility can get a pretty hefty fine if the wrong code is entered. Coders generally need a couple of years experience doing coding tasks, certification(s) in the field and preferably completion of an accredited program to possibly even get a job. If still interested in schooling, please opt for the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program is accredited within the industry.
