  • Answer:

In today's society it is to make money. More tickets more money. Police are a necessary evil, however they are the biggest "gang" the US will ever see.

I wish I could be like everybody else and hate on cops, but in fact I cannot. It's easy to get caught for something and then blame it on the "corrupt" police officers who charged or arrested you. All of these opinions and stories are one-sided. I am quite certain a group police officers would not BARGE into your house and beat you for no reason. Of course, there may be a few misfit police officers who do in fact do drugs or go on a power trip because they have a gun. However, policing is a job and of course that will happen anywhere. And over time, they get weeded out. A police force is supposed to represent the society in which it protects. If anything they don't get enough credit, especially from ignorant people who think all cops are power-tripping and/or corrupt. Believe it or not, police officers are there to HELP you. Give justice to victims. Save lives. Be brave and strong when nobody else can. Only on rare occasions do they hear a mere 'thank you'. If we didn't have this, imagine how much violence, theft, and murder would happen. Then again, the people who hate cops are probably the exact people who are committing these crimes.

The role has not changed, but the RULES have. Now law enforcement officers have less rights than the criminals they protect us from

The role of a police Officer has never changed. To protect life and property and to keep the peace and catch criminals.

well, i guess i can only speak for myself here, but i have a feeling most cops would agree with me here. i help the underdogs. i chase the bad guys so "normal" people dont have to. i go deal with the people you want to stay away from. i figure out what to do when you dont know who else to call. i am the common ground that everyone can just agree that they hate. i will do it no matter the time of day or the weather. i do what needs to get done to maintain order, and i do it by abiding by the same rules i enforce. i put my life on the line to make sure you dont. i do things for the good of the community when not many people really understand how or why. theres more, but hopefully you get the jist.
