Is the post office career under the government job?and is it easy to apply and get accepted for the job ?

  • and also ,i heard that there is an exam before applying for the job ,is the exam is real or just a scam?

  • Answer:

I worked for the postal service it is true only apply thought the postal serivce website because I took the test and it is free you don't have to pay anything. and you can get the postal service test book from either the library for free or you can buy them for the book store you can get the 473c or 473. If you take this test you should get a high score like a 100 so you can get hire quicker because the lower your score the long you have to wait. people have been waiting for years. they hire for carrier first because that's the job most people don't want to do and quit. If you want to see how the job is you can also sign up as a temperary work like a causal and that lets you work for the postal service without taking the test. but it is not a full time career you will be laid off beause you can only work for a 180 days if they like you they will pick you back up and let you work again for another 180 days you will work for six months straight or for 1 year if you work for the power plants but remeber you will be treat worse then the career employer who took the test and got hire . I started out as a causal

You apply for postal jobs under the Post Office's own employment web site: http://www.usps.com/employment/welcome.htm?from=home&page=employment ANY OTHER WEBSITE is a site that will either (a) charge you for "training" that will not be of any help or (b) an out and out scam. USE ONLY the USPS website above to apply for post office jobs. These are still considered federal jobs, even though the post office is no longer under the old "civil service" category--but for that matter, neither is the rest of the government. It is not really easy to get a postal job. The test isn't hard, but--the jobs are more scarce than people realize. And two factors make a big difference: whether you have military experience, and where you live. As with all federal jobs, Veterans get preference in hiring. That means that they actually get points added to their scores when they are placed on a hire list. AND...the larger the city, the easier it will be to find a postal job. If you're looking for a job locally, it will be next to impossible if you live in a smaller town or municipality. New hires in the post office are usually asked to work late or night shifts (if they are hired in production and processing) or as substitute carriers, until a regular full-time opening comes along. You can work as a sub for years before that happens. The work involves a lot of standing, lifting, carrying heavy items and tedious sorting at machines and by hand. You must be very quick to know the differences between abbreviations, street names and numbers and understand how the mail is moved from place to place. You must be able to work quickly and without error. The work is exacting, and can at times be very difficult for someone who does not have a good command of the english language. Benefits are good--but so are benefits for all federal jobs, if you work full-time. Part time workers do not rate benefits or vacations--so keep that in mind. If you are looking for government work, try this website also: www.USAJOBS.gov. This is the government's employment website. DO NOT use any other website--this is the only official one. good luck.
