Answer:
If you want to receive your own benefits directly you need to visit the office and file an application to be made your own payee. The claims rep will need to send a form to your doctor for his/her opinion and will contact your current payee. After making those contacts they will write up a decision including their own impression of your ability to manage your benefits. They will either approve your request or they won't. If you are approved to receive your benefits directly be sure to read up on your rights and responsibilities as a beneficiary. You will be given a receipt telling you what you are required to report and how to report it. How you think you can manage to go to school and live on your own is beyond me. It seems to me to be pretty unrealistic given the amount of your income which would indicate perhaps that you aren't capable of managing money.

Since you plan on either going to college or a trade school, plus you want to live on your own, I'm assuming you're under the assumption that simply because your parents got SSI for you that you get to continue on SSI. Since you're considering being an RN, you aren't disabled, so you won't be staying on disability once you graduate from high school.
Judith's answer is essentially correct. But you can move out, you can go to college and you can be your own payee. It might be the case that you are going to college on a full ride scholarship or that your parents are going to pay your tuition or that you have prepaid tuition. You can be on SSI and go to college. You can be disabled under the definition of SSI and go to college. None of this is easy or automatic. Follow what Judith suggests and possibly become your own payee. My son goes to college. He gets SSI. He had his tuition paid for by his grandparents when he was just a baby. It is not considered income as the money goes directly to the college.
