What is the scope of launching an e-commerce marketplace in USA and Canada?

I know e-commerce sites are doing well and its a huge industry, But when talking about marketplaces like etsy, so resellers can open there storefronts. Normally people think that marketplaces are good in emerging markets not established markets like US. What are your opinions?

Same answer I got from different people in USA and Canada, As I am sitting in an emerging market and have built a marketplace already http://www.smartprice.pk, but according to my e-commerce experience, YES we can launch the marketplace in USA and Canada but with the different strategy. Today market is very product line specific, So we can always launch an e-commerce markerplace for a specific industry. Lets say If I am on your place, I would be thinking to launch my marketplace to USA and Canada for shoe sellers (Example only). I am sure that will work.
