What is SecuRom on PC games?

I was wondering whether with a lot of pc games you have to install extra software like securom?

    The PC is the ultimate gaming platform, much better than any console. You can always try a free PC game demo to see if your PC is built for gaming! I'd suggest UT3, but your PC will need to be fairly modern with a dual core CPU processor, at least 1GB but better to have 2GB of RAM plus a fairly fast DX9 video card (not integrated graphics chip). You can download the UT3 demo at the link under sources below (as well as other game demos) PC games are occasionally updated with "Patches" which are self-extracting files you download and install much like updating your PC's system drivers.
