  If you live in the U.S. and have a Walmart store close to you, then buy The Sims 2 Double Deluxe. This is a three-in-one game as it is the base game that is simply called The Sims 2, along with one expansion pack called Nightlife and one stuff pack called Celebrations. This 3-in-1 game sells for just under $30.00 at Walmart. If there isn't a Walmart near you, then check out other stores that sell games. It should still be close to $30.00. Good deal too as I paid $50 for the base game when it first came out and then $30 for Nightlife alone and another $20 for Celebrations. Anyway, you should probably just buy that game to start out with to make sure that your computer can play the game well before you go out and buy any more expansion or stuff packs. It would be a big disappointment to buy more games only to learn that your computer can't handle them. If you are planning on playing the games on a laptop, many laptops have what is called an integrated video card. Most of the time, this type of card cannot play the sims 2 games very well, if at all. So just buy the one game and make sure your computer/laptop can play that game. After that, I would recommend Seasons as in my opinion it was one of the best. Many people also like Freetime and Apartment Life. I wouldn't really spend too much on the stuff packs as all they do is add "stuff" like new clothes, hair styles and furniture. You can actually go to lots of different sims 2 websites and download hair, clothing and furniture for free, so many people feel it's really a waste of money to buy the stuff packs. I do actually own stuff packs, but Celebrations is the only one that I actually paid full price to get. Don't know what I was thinking! lol! All the rest of my stuff packs were bought when they were on sale for around $12 to $14 and I only bought them so I would own a complete set. Dumb, I know. :-)
