Natural gas (propane, cng, or lpg) will run in a gasoline engine with minimal adaptation. No processing is required. The downside to natural gas is it requires a heavier, pressurized fuel tank. Most conversions have a shorter range than gasoline cars. Also, right now it's hard to find a refuel. Vegetable oil (peanut, canola, soybean) will run in a diesel engine with no modification if it's above about 40 degrees. In colder weather, the oil needs to be pre-heated--most people use a 2-tank setup (regular diesel for starting and warming up, veggie for running). The conversion usually costs about $2,000. Pressing veggie oil does require some processing, but it's already being done for cooking. WVO (waste vegetable oil) is veggie oil that's already been used for frying food, that will run in a diesel after it's filtered and is often available for free at the back of restaurants. A $10 filter will process 100-200 gallons depending on its condition. Or you can filter with a centrifuge, that replaces the filter but it does use some electricity.
