I've been googling the same thing for hours, until I noticed one of my friends knew what to do. She told me to upload the profile picture, and after it's your default, go into the profile pictures album and delete it there. It remains as your profile picture but doesn't show up in the album. :)

There are heaps of ways of doing this (: i am one of those annoying people who do this, all you do is upload a profile picture then delete the photo later on, normally people do this because they like the photo but dont want others to see the close up! otherways are setting the settings to 'only me' can see it. hope i helped!
Probably because that person has chosen the 'custom' option for who they want to see the picture, and you're not one of them :(
what is the point in hiding it then?? just delete it.. you can check personalisation options
