Why can't I see my MSN contacts even when they are online?

Im having trouble with msn messenger 8 ? i cant see my contacts?

i upgraded 7.5 to 8.0 and now everytime i log into messenger it says i have no contacts. ive tryed adding them but they wont save. ive tryed re installing like 4 times and still no ...show more

is the arrown next to contacts facing downwards ? if its facing like this > click on 2 it and make it face dwn
