Answer:
Racing is not considered a career/allowed there so tax for the unemployed is 4%. Plus they all aren't Swiss, rather foreigners so tax can't be charged to the full. You know, here's ten reasons why living in Swiss is so great: * It's not Spain * You can visit Michael Schumacher's themed rodeo castle * It has the perfect nightlife for an F1 driver - i.e. none * If you're a big cuckoo clock fan, then you've landed in hog heaven * There's no motor sport allowed, hence Max is unlikely to visit. * You can buy some great pocket knives * Tabloid journalists find it too expensive * Swiss TV will help you get to sleep early * You're unlikely to be disturbed by someone flushing a toilet after 10pm as it's forbidden * It's shut on Sundays, but that doesn't matter because that's when you'll be out at grands prix

Switzerland is so nice and has no traffic, pollution or crime or pikeys or chavs that the government doesn't need to take peoples money to fix anything.
Basically it's so he doesn't have to pay 40% tax on his earnings next year. When you consider that he could easily earn £10 million next year, £4 million in tax isn't attractive. The Swiss tax sysytem is complicated, but for foreign nationals who choose to live in Switzerland, there is a special tax system called the Fiscal deal. Where they're not taxed on all of their income, but on an agreed amount based on their expenses. This is calculated on a rental value of their home, along with what they spend on food and other expenses. This figure is then multiplied by 5, then that figure is the amount what you get taxed on at a much lower rate, usually less than 20%. So say all his expenses for the year come to £50 000 X 5, this would give him a taxable income of £250 000, rather than what he really earns
