What helps to increase pain tolerance for a tattoo?

Your tattooist is an idiot because Motrin is ibprofen based. It's a blood thinner. You don't want to bleed any more during a tattoo than you have to. If you need pain medication, take Tylenol. Caffeine can make some people feel pain more acutely rather than less. It depends on your body. I find that it makes me more sensitive so I tend to avoid it before I go in to get tattooed. Keep breathing, take the pain medication, and don't whine about it. If you hold your breath, you're more likely to pass out. If you whine, you'll just irritate everyone around you, including the one sticking needles in your skin. Stay calm and you'll live. No one's ever died from the pain of getting a tattoo.

what he said is right...and don't listen to the people above about getting drunk. Most artists will refuse too tattoo a person is not sober due to health issues, a main thing being bleeding. Don't worry, it hurts, but it is a good pain. Its addictive! have fun! :)

go in thinking its really going to hurt super bad, kinda try to sike yourself out! lol! it feels like a buning scratch. ask them to put on music for a to get your mind off. good luck, it's not that bad, ya just gotta be tough lol

I've never had a tattoo before but I've heard if you think about something else it'll help you keep your mind off of the pain. That's why the tattoo artist always talks to you about where you got the idea for the tattoo, and asks you to tell stories and such. If that doesnt help, just take his advice.

truthfully you'll have nothing to worry about. i know over 15 people with tattoos spread around all places of there body and all of them agree that most people over exaggerate the pain and that it only hurts, and still only barely, when it goes directly over a bone. hell one of my best friends said it felt like a tickle. so i hope your tattoo comes out the way you want and you should post a pic of it later.

your tattoo is going to hurt. you have to realize that before you star. The pain level usually coresponds with the area of the body, ie the ribs calves and feet are supposed to hurt more. But the main thing I have expirenced is that if I get one when I am well rested it might hurt less, that or I don't mind the pain as much at that point.

im not sure what can help reduce pain. but along with motrin, alcohol & weed thin your blood too.
