What qualifications do i need to work at a daycare in Alabama?

You probably can get a job just by networking with the owners and the center directors. I've known daycare workers with absolutely no skills at all that have landed full time jobs in childcare. The directors usually feel sorry for the single mothers who can't get a job anywhere else. They want to "be nice" so they hire some of the least qualified women to staff their centers. These directors get money from the state as an incentive for hiring basically unemployable young single mothers. The state pays for their training and they give tax breaks to the owners of the day care centers. That's why childcare in Alabama is so tragically lacking. The center directors hire the most poorly qualified women to staff their centers. They don't want to hire anyone with a technical or academic background in Early Childhood Education because they'll probably be unable to ignore all the negligence and "rule bending" that occurs in daycare centers. The childcare industry in Alabama is really a crumby place to be in this terrible economy. The workers are underpaid and they're overly tired and they take their frustrations out on the little children in their care. It's really sad. You may be happier working at McDonalds than in some crumbly daycare.
