What type of experiments are performed in the field of Quantum optics?

  • The field of Quantum optics is relatively new and I would like to know the type of research that is being conducted currently? Apart form Quantum computation and cryptography? Also, what are the various single photon experiments? (Assume that I know the fundamentals of  Quantum  mechanics). Does experiments in Q.O  contribute  to the Foundations of Quantum mechanics itself? how famous is Q.O among graduate students compared to Condensed matter physics or High energy physics?

    Quantum Key Distribution which is the fundamental backbone of Quantum Cryptography comprises of majority of experiments related to QOptics. However there are a bunch of other interesting stuff going on in the field. Cavity QED with Neutral Atoms and Trapped Ions Single atom dipole traps to capture and address single atoms.
