  Sweetcorn is a perfectly good bait. In fact, many large carp in Europe fall to FAKE sweetcorn (i.e. rubber sweetcorn). Every angler will tell you a different bait (here in the UK, many are obsessed with boilies), but a lot will depend on where you're fishing and how you're fishing. For example, maggots and worms can make a great bait, but not if you're plagues by small fish. If you're 'stalking' carp (i.e. spotting them and casting directly to them), then they can rarely resist a worm! However, whatever bait you choose, watercraft is FAR more important. You can fish with the most wonderful bait in the world, but it won't catch you fish if you cast it nowhere near their patrol routes. Carp are a curious fish and will pick up all sorts of baits - the key is getting it in front of them in the first place. Tight lines!
