  Theoretically yes, but you'll find a lot of US banks and trading companies have major problems processing UK cards! I know it's an amazing situation and the US retailers always blame UK Banks, however we are the ones with Chip and Pin, not them. The only advice I can give you is to ask first, then to get a test transaction done, if that doesn't work I'd ask them about alternative payment methods such as a bank transfer... it's a pain in the neck, however you can get some great deals by buying camera kit in the USA. Your fall back plan could be to get a friend who is visiting the US to bring your goodies back for you, or if you are buying a lot it could be worth travelling over there for in person. If you check the Revenue and Customs website you'll find many items only have duty of around 5% payable. BTW beware of the vendors who say (there are many of them!) that you can claim back state tax at the airport - last time I was in NYC I asked at the airport and found out this information was a popular urban myth!
