Employers: Why are employers checking applicant credit files as contingent upon?

  • whether or not they will hire them? How is that their business, unless of course one was about to work for a banking institution of some sort. What type of jobs have the legal right ...show more

  • Answer:

Sup Cocoa? I know.....right? That's fecked up! How do they expect people to have good credit when dey broke azzes is out of work? If their credit was good, their employment status would probably be good as well and there would be no need to put in an application. Of course there are positions that require you to handle fiduciary responsibility on their behalf and I can totally understand that but they are asking this info for a lot of other unrelated positions. On another note, they are also doing credit check and criminal background checks to rent and lease housing now. I bought some generic leases that I use for rental properties and the questions were on there. I don't really do a criminal background check but you should hear the people that fill it out and be like "uh, yeah.....um lemme explain 'bout dat record thing......uh what had happened was....." LOL!

It's getting more and more common. You already understand the need for financial institutions. But employers don't want people to enhance their income by taking cash from the till or selling high value inventory items on the black market. Security companies and law enforcement related occupations don't want their employees subject to bribes to look the other way. Even though 99.999% of the potential employees are low risk, the companies don't want to take that risk. It's the .001% unscrupulous employees to make it tough on the honest ones. What jobs have the legal right to do that? If you want to work for a company, you have to abide by their rules and conditions of employment. No credit check authorization - no hire.

I know it's dumb but to see if that person is responsible. Many companies believe, if you have good credit, you're a responsible person and acceptable for hiring. Even though our economy has ruined millions of Americans credit score and including my credit score. We are viewed as irresponsible. Yeah, I use to work at this one company. You have the first credit check so you can be hired. After 90 days, you go through the process over again. Stuff like that sucks.

Mind2Mind

Companies are doing this only to get basic information of an applicants credit history or worthiness and you can get a copy of the report. Thes kind of checks are considered part of a backround check. If you want mor information you can google "The Fair Credit Report Act (FRCA).
