  • Answer:

Windows XP has IE 8. You can't go any higher (no IE 9). Open IE. Use keyboard shortcut Alt+T, click Manage Add-ons. You can disable any toolbars you don't recognize. It wouldn't hurt to run an anti-malware (not anti-virus) scan of your computer. I suggest the free edition of SuperAntiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/ or the free version of Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4/?gclid=CMeRk43Z3boCFSU6QgoddBIAfg Both are legitimate and highly used. Don't install both (one or the other). There should be no conflict with your existing anti-virus software. Quarantine/remove the malware. Good luck.

The toolbar was probably installed when another program was installed. Developers now sneak them into a download with a check mark that nobody notices. The quick way to hide it is under the "view > toolbars" menu. To really get rid of it depends on how it was installed. It can be a simple add-on or an actual program. ℬ ℋ
