Can you copy from a DVR to a VCR?

Time Warner DVR and a DVD recorder!?!?

  • I have Time Warner Cable with the DVR. I have a few shows recorded on my dvr that i don't want to erase, but they are taking up space. The DVR gives the option to COPY TO VCR, but ...show more

  • Answer:

OK, when I got my DVR from TW, they told me I could record to DVD or tape, whatever I had. As far as I know, the "copy to VCR" just copies directly - with commercials, etc. In theory (if their info was correct) you could record whatever you want to DVD, and it should not give you a copyright error. You probably cannot edit the show, though, unless you record to VHS (with the tape, you can pause recording, fast-forward the show, then resume taping). I don't see why you wouldn't be able to record multiple shows to 1 DVD, but it may depend on how much room is on the DVD & the options at the time of recording. As far as recording at multiple times, unless they've updated DVD-R's, you can't do that - everything has to be recorded at once.
