  "Should young people of average intelligence be successful in a computer science career? " Yes!, i mean, i'm not a Computer Scientist, but i do develop some code for web apps and these stuff. From a personal experience, as i have worked with some Computer Science guys i saw: The central fact of understanding how a computer related worker can be successful is, in my opinion, knowing how much capable he/she is to believe in what he/she does. As a lot of C.S people do their work only for money, or for a fact of not having choice, you know: 'oh, im good with computers, i like it, im gonna do C.S". But the main focus here is, you really don't have to be, that intelligent, you have to know what you are doing, have objectives clearly stated to yourself, and believe in what you do. Programming and developing code can sometimes need a little more capacity to solve problems and cases, if a person is very intelligent, that would be absolutely positive, and that should actually be one of the only needs for intelligence in this case. See that, great ideas, great pieces of computer technology were created by people that believed, people that had a personal experience or need for that which they developed, and the most important thing is to look at it as an Art. And art where just like Steve Jobs said at Apple, technology meets liberal arts. See that people who developed for wanting and not for need, did not go so well. I'll give you an example: - Google, the original, was made by two Uni. students that had a need for a better search system, something that would help the world find things quicker and easier in the internet. That was an art, not just by the product itself, but because of the way it was produced, because of the faith it's creators had in it. Now examining the latest google products, you will see: Google+, was a wanting, it's a attempt by Google to compete with Facebook. It didn't go well, in my opinion, i find Facebook much more, "social complete", than G+. Another example is Android. It's a great mobile operating system, but it just cannot beat iOS. Because iOS is a master-piece, its pure simplicity and fine working, with complete sets of great developed applications, Android is just not that, Android has not got a base of belief and need. So, to answer your question: In my opinion, Ethics is, the most important thing, intelligence is also important (not as much), but in any situation, both have to ride together for success, having in mind your true objectives.
