Does it damage your eyes if a computer moniter is bright?

If a window is left on a computer overnight (ex. a web page) and the moniter is off can it damage the CPU?

    I don't see why you would want to leave it on overnight, but no it shouldn't damage anything if you haven't disabled the power down controls. After a set time the computer will drop it's power to a sleep mode. If you don't have this set, it will run your fan continually and one of these days you will have a problem. Ron

Only your power bill will be hurt a bit, but not by much. Do you have an AMD? If so you should enable cool n quiet to reduce power usage. If you have a newer intel, you should enable speedstep. In either case your system is just idle so nothing is happening, and there is no damage to the cpu or the monitor.

Not necessarely but the components will be used faster for no good reason.In the end your father is wright. Usually between 50 to 150 watts, depending on the pc.

To the best of my knwledge, all that will happen is that, when you start the computer the next time, it will recognize that it hadn't been shut down properly. If all you did was shut the monitor off, it acts like a screen saver. I don't think it causes any damage but, isn't a good idea if you are expecting severe thunderstorms. What is an AIM?

It doesn't "damage" anything. The computer uses less power with a program like AIM, but if you had a video running, a little more power might be drawn. Leaving a window open doesnt do anything. Your dad needs to calm down. He might have OCD.
