What is the difference between full HD and hd complete tv's?

What's the difference between 'HD ready' and 'Full HD' TVs? ?

  • I'm thinking about buying a new lcd tv. Some tvs say they are 'HD ready' and others say 'Full HD' Does 'HD ready' mean it is capable to be 'Full HD'? What's the difference? And ...show more

  • Answer:

"HD ready" means that it is a real HDTV, but does not have the tuner capability of getting digital broadcast. If you want to receive off-the-air broadcast you would need a separate tuner. If you have cable or satellite, you do not need that. The full HD set has a built-in tuner for reception of digital broadcasts. There should be no difference in quality. However, most manufacturers stopped making "HD ready" sets some time ago, so the chances are that a HD ready set is an older model and not as good as a later one. BTW, 720p, 1080i and 1080p are all true HDTV.

HD Ready TVs are those that can display 720p images (1280x720 pixels) while FullHD are the ones that are capable of 1080p (1920x1080 pixels) videos. If you're just going to watch HD cable TV, then HD Ready should suffice. However, if you are a videophile who enjoys Blu-ray films and video games on PS3 or Xbox 360, then FullHD TVs are what you need.
