LA burbs....what would be the best choice between Thousand oaks and Orange county?

    I live in Hollywood Hills and love it, but I prefer an URBAN suburban experience. To each their own. Have you considered Valencia and the Santa Clarita Valley? It seems to me that everything there is newer, planned, and set in a lovely mountainous setting. It is also a nice commute to Los Angeles, and your husband could commute by Metrolink if he likes. Santa Clarita Valley is also not that far from Thousand Oaks, whereas Orange County would be much farther.

Thousand Oaks is too far from any metro area. Orange County would be a better choice because there are all sorts of metro areas there to chose from, while TO is a city unto itself. Orange County has great cultural attractions, the beach, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, museums and much more.

Start your search in Irvine, one of the first master planned communities. If you want newer, just head south. If you want towns with a little more history, then try Brea, Orange, or Yorba Linda. As for friendly, that's generally not the norm here in SoCal. People tend to keep to themselves for the most part. I would find a good church to attend. I lucked out where I live... I know just about all my neighbors, and most are very friendly. We actually chat with them while we go out for a walk in the evening.

Move to Irvine... it's planned out & has nice "normal" people (i.e Not very diverse) and everything you are lookinig for.. A city with no personality due to the planned out features.. Enjoy.
