    Go on cruise critic.com and read about it. Carnival is good for a first cruise as you've nothing to compare it to. You will have fun. But the other lines are better. We did Carnival as our 4th cruise. It wasn't bad, and the food was better than I expected. What really annoyed me was parents who decided that since they were on vacation, the ship crew and other passengers would babysit for them. I was on the top deck as 3 AM having a smoke and their were packs of 8 year old running around. Who let's their kids go unsupervised at 3 AM, even on a cruise ship? I never experienced that on any other line.

I have cruised Carnival & Royal Caribbean, not recently, both times on older ships to be fair, but RC is so much nicer, the food so much better, that is why RC costs more. I certainly enjoyed both cruises, they was much more free alcohol on carnival than RC. If money is not an issue, then cruise RC without a doubt. When I cruised, Carnival had a water slide RC didn't, Carnival had more ship games involving alcohol, our ship had a pillow fight contest and a beer drinking contest. I had a great time on both, just a tad disappoint on the food, Carnival was not bad or anything, just RC was awesome. These newer ships are so much larger than the ships I cruised on, but even those ship were really nice.
