Traditional methods of water conservation?

  • Answer:

Install low flow shower heads, minimize lawn watering (I have never watered mine, it may go dormant, but will come back when it rains), Use the dishwasher with full loads rather than hand washing, install low flow toilets, or reduce the amount of water in the tank (not the depthof the water) by putting in mason jars,as was suggested or some other object.

One way to conserve water is to shut off the water while brushing your teeth and just use a cup of water. Time your showers to five minutes or less. Save dish washing water for the garden or flower bed. Use rain barrels attached to your gutter downspouts to catch rain water for watering lawns and garden when needed. Only run full dishwasher loads and laundry too.

The best common ways are by installing low flow shower heads and aerators on your faucets. (I use a spa quality shower head that cost me $30 it uses 1.5 gpm compared to the normal 2.5 and higher and my shower is the same. It's called evolve) Use a energy star dishwasher and do full cycles, a front loading washing machine, and low flow toilets. Some slightly out of the norm ways I use are I have rain barrels for watering yard and garden and flushing toilets. Below are some sights for other ideas thanks for thinking about it.

In the desert only grow plants that require but little water. Do not plant fescue or blue grass type lawns as they require enormous amounts of water. When shaving use only a small amount of water in a container for rinsing off your razor between strokes, instead of running fresh water for that purpose throughout the shave.

you can put mason jars under the back part of your toilet so it fills with less water, and don't save your legs during the shower, turn the water off. hope it helps.
