Redundancy when sent abroad?

Is it normal to be sent home straight after a redundancy warning meeting?

  • Am I dismissed actually? I have been told to digest a redundancy letter. What's next? Am I going to be dismissed on the spot? I have been working there 15 months. Thanks. L

  • Answer:

No, it sounds like they are trying to keep it quiet or to stop any public displays of anger or sadness which is pretty understandable but you can check your rights on the directgov site very informative but the best of luck :)

It's not unusual - people are often upset. No, you are not yet dismissed. Read the letter you've been given which will explain what happens next.

They don't want to tell any of the other staff what is going on. To qualify for redundancy money you have got to be with the company for 2 years full time (longer if part time).

There is a serious recession on at the moment which means that companies have to downsize and cut costs to remain in business. This may involve reallocation of roles - two people doing work once done by three people with the third person made redundant. 15 months is not long in a redundancy context as it is inevitably last in first out.
